Hayden Racing News and Notes
It was an AWESOME weekend for the Hayden’s on the 27th and 28th. On Saturday, Kyle went out and was 2nd quick in the factory stocks with a 15.21. Kyle also won the dash in exciting fashion with a last lap pass on Julian Fluty to take the checkered flag. In the 25-lap feature, Kyle rolled off 9th and immediately began his charge to the front. In 14 laps he picked off Fluty, Christiensen, Johnston, Salogar, Smith, and Dice, all on the outside! Once Kyle cleared the Rick Smith to move into 2nd he began his charge at Tater, but Chris drove a heck of a race and Kyle was unable to catch him. Chris went on to his first win of 2005, with Kyle not too far behind.
On Sunday, Kyle and Johnny were both in action. Kyle went out and qualified 3rd quick with a time of 15.33, Johnny also qualified 3rd quick in the trucks with a 16.17. In the fast car dash, Kyle was unable to stay on the outside of Dave Christiensen, but he and Larry Plamondon had a heck of a battle, side by side nearly the whole race. Kyle held on for 2nd. In the truck dash, Johnny was involved in a 2nd lap altercation, and broke a tie-rod. They did not have any spare with them, so it was questionable whether he would be out for the feature.
In the factory stock 25-lap feature, Kyle rolled off 7th, and again made his charge to the front. After moving up to 3rd, the front brakes locked up on Kyle going into turn 3, and he slid up and almost off the track. However, Kyle regained control of the car and began to pass the cars that he had already gotten by once. When it was all done, Plamondon took the win, followed by Jay Woolworth, Kyle and Jon Beach.
In the Thunder Truck 20-lap feature, Johnny was able to get a tie-rod and made it out for the feature. He had moved into the lead by lap 7, with Brian Cogswell nipping at his heels. On lap 13, Cogswell had a tough break and the motor let go. After the restart, Johnny drove like a man possessed and took off for his 3rd feature win in ‘05. After the race, another driver protested his motor, claiming it was illegal. After lengthy inspection, the tech officials deemed his motor to be legal. Johnny is the current points leader, with 2 races left in the season.
Next weekend will again be a double shot of racing action. Kyle will be in action in the factory stock class at the 28th annual Mudslinger at Auto City. Then on Sunday, the team will make the trip to Spartan Speedway for the Harvest 250. See ya at the track!!
