Kenny Soups the Ride Up, Kyle takes it to Victory Lane
Saturday night was the 2nd annual “Finale” at Auto City. This means that the rulebook was thrown right out the window, and it was almost anything goes for the factory stock class.
Kenny made some modifications to the car, he added a spoiler, lowered the fuel cell, cut the mufflers off and put a bigger 2 bbl carburator on it for this Saturday. Kyle was quick right off of the bat in hot laps, and went out and had fast time in the qualifying session with a 15.05 until Mike Walther came out and put down a blistering lap of 15.03.
The top 6 cars would be in a 10 lap dash, to determing starting positions 7-12 for the 40-lap feature. Kyle started 5th and immediately began his march to the front, he moved into 3rd by the end of lap 1, moved into 2nd on lap 3, and passed Kenny Ford for the lead on lap 5. Walther was all over him and on the final lap Mike gave Kyle the chrome horn, but he was not to be denied and Kyle took the dash win, putting him in the 7th starting position for the main event.
After a complete restart, Kyle again started moving forward from the drop of the green. After passing Larry Plamondon and Jay Woolworth, Kyle began to gain ground on the leader Ed Doutre Jr. He caught him on lap 17 and was working hard on him until he was finally able to nose out in front on lap 23. From there he took off like a rocket and drove away to his 3rd win in the 2005 season. Walther held on for second.
In other news, Tim Priebe shattered the track record (although it doesn’t count, due to it beign open rules), and was able to finish 2nd from his 11th starting spot.
Next Saturday night is the final night of the 2005 season, weather permitting. If the show goes on, look for Kyle’s little brother Curtis to be behind the wheel of the #22 car, just to get some laps in preperation for the 2005 season. But, you might see Kyle behind the wheel of another car next weekend (to be determined).
See ya at the track!
