More Top Notch Finishes for the Hayden’s
Kyle, Curtis, and Eddie contine to knock down the great finishes at Auto City and Dixie, and last weekend they were joined on the track by Johnny!
Last weekend 4 Hayden’s were in the factory stock field at Auto City. Johnny was there with the car on his first night, but had problems all afternoon. He was late for qualifying after a starter went bad, then in the semi-feature he lost oil pressure and his evening was quickly over. Johnny is dissappointed but says that he will be back soon and plans on running with the rest of the family. “Fast” Eddie and Kyle comprised the 2nd row for the 25-lap feature. Jay Woolworth jumped out to the lead in the 25-lap featureand Kyle followed him right to the front. Eventually Mike Walther passed Kyle and Jay and went on to the victory. Kyle also passed Jay and was running 2nd until Chris Stearns nosed him out at the line for 2nd. Which put Kyle 3rd and Eddie 4th at the finish. Curt had a tie-rod bent while running in the top-10 and fell back to finish 17th.
The following Friday at Dixie was Autograph night at the races. The cars were on the track for 1-hour of fun as kids got autographs, sat in cars, talked to drivers and got lots of candy!! Kyle and Curt both made the trip to the Dixie. Kyle set fast time for the 2nd time this season with a 16.249. Curtis clocked in 8th quick with a 16.880. Curtis rolled off 2nd in the 25-lap feature and Kyle 8th. Curtis put up a fight on the outside but was no match for the faster qualifiers on the inside. At the first caution Kyle was 5th and Curtis 6th as the re-start came. Kyle began making his charge to the front. Just before halfway there was another caution, with Kyle 3rd and Curtis 5th. On the re-start Kyle worked his way into 2nd and jumped to the outside of the leader. Just as the cross flags were shown Kyle jumped out front and cruised to his first career Dixie Motor Speedway victory. Jim Miller was 2nd, Adam Rowe 3rd (but was DQ’ed in post-race inspection), Mike Walther 4th, followed by Kenny Ford, Ed Newman Jr., and Curtis shortly behind. After the race, Kyle was asked about Dixie, and had this to say, “I think this track (Dixie) suits my abilities more than Auto City. A car that can run the outside here has a big advantage because everyone is fighting to get to the bottom. I don’t see why everyone is so afraid of the outside because that is the place to go to get by the inside line freight train.”
On Saturday the action was again great. Kyle qualified 7th and Eddie 5th. However, Curtis had a mechanical failure just before qualifying that forced him to be finished for the evening. We are dissappointed, but hopeful that he will be back on the track again next weekend. In the 25-lap feature it was Kenny Ford on the pole, with Kyle on the outside. Eddie started behind Kyle in row 2. Kyle made a great move on the start and shot out into the lead, followed by Ford and “Fast” Eddie. Eddie worked on Ford the whole race as Kyle worked out to a 4 car advantage. Numerous caution flags bunched the field up and let the pack keep up with Kyle. Chris Stearns made a great run on the high side and worked up to 2nd with 5 laps to go. Without a yellow, Tater may not have had enough time to catch Kyle, but the caution flag flew again and bunched up the field once again. On the re-start , Chris immediately jumped to the outside. Kyle stuck to the bottom and Chris went on by to his first feature win of the season. Kyle came home 2nd, with “Fast” Eddie right in his tire tracks in 3rd.
Next weekend Kyle will be in action on both nights in the Auto Pride Collision/Duke’s Car Stereo Monte Carlo. As for the rest, you will just have to wait and see!!
A big congratulations goes out to “Big Show” Joe Hodgeson for taking home his first feature win in the modified class! Great job Joe!!!
See ya at the track!!
